700 MHz Spectrum Won't Include Cable
on December 4, 2007
The FCC's upcoming auction of the 700 MHz wireless spectrum has been gathering it's fair share of press, and gathered more today with the announcement that cable television behemoths Time Warner and Comcast won't participate.
The decision comes just days after Google announced it would participate in the auction, and weeks after controversy broke out over Verizon's quickly-abandoned federal suit to prevent the FCC from forcing open access on the spectrum. Microsoft has already pledged not to participate, and AT&T's participation has been mired in confusing press statements.
This latest round of announcements appears to whittle the competition down to Google vs. Verizon Wireless, with the possibility of a late entry by AT&T.
