Canadian Wi-Fi Company Sues Just About Everybody
on November 1, 2007
Wi-Lan Inc., a Canadian company that holds patents on a variety of wi-fi related technologies, has filed suit in Texas against just about everybody. Among the defendants – charged with patent infringement – are Sony, Best Buy, Apple, Dell, Intel, Netgear, and 18 others.
The company claims the parties are responsible for selling equipment that violates Wi-Lan's patents, and believes that suing the retailers, rather than the manufacturers, is the way to go. One has to wonder, however, if they aren't setting themselves up to be the next SCO, considering that the faces they've decided to kick sand into are attached to quite a bit of financial muscle.
