Microsoft's FolderShare Meets The Trash
on December 12, 2007
Reliability is often cited by Microsoft supporters as a defining feature of Microsoft software. One can almost see them reddening through the egg on their faces, with the news that Microsoft's file-syncing software Foldershare has been sharing user's files with the recycle bin.
FolderShare is supposed to help users sync files across multiple computers, much like Unison or rsync. According to Microsoft, however, instead of syncing files, FolderShare has been deleting files that contained special characters. Apparently, the problem began on December 3rd and was fixed by the 6th, but Microsoft wants to make sure that affected users know not to empty their trash, because there might just be something important in there.
