1. Since this was written, a large security hole was discovered in sendmail 8.6.9. Use sendmail 8.6.10 or later instead. Linux binaries are available from sunsite.unc.edu, and it builds without modifications from the source, available via anonymous ftp from ftp.cs.berkeley.edu in the ucb/sendmail directory.
