Netflix Moves From Mail Order To On Demand
on January 3, 2008
Netflix — the dot-com that beat the bubble and shipped over a billion DVD's to subscribers across the US — has decided to take its subscription service digital by offering set-top boxes that will download movies and more direct from the internet.
Netflix has built itself into a multi-billion dollar player in the movie rental business by offering flat-fee rentals of DVDs, mailed to customers with no due date and no late fees. The company also has a limited download-to-PC program, which allows customers to download movies and television to compatible computers.
The new service will feature a set-top box manufactured by LG, and will be available to subscribers at no additional charge.
