Mark Asselstine: As a software engineer for over 20 years I get no greater professional pleasure than seeing software that I contributed to being used by others. Over the years I have had the opportunity to contribute in large and small part to software used in the classroom, air traffic control centres, telecommunications, embedded devices and possibly even the phone in your pocket. Whether my software contributions have been used to educate an aerospace engineer involved in launching and retrieving rockets, ensuring you have flown safely across our country or oversees, or reminded you to get your trash to the curb in time to be picked up, I apply the same care and attention to detail in my work ensuring that my work is of the highest possible quality and reliability. I am a software engineer with experience in robotics and control systems, telecommunications, real-time embedded systems, virtualization, IoT and cloud who specializes in open source solutions. I am able to use my experience to help lead effective teams, yet go to work everyday expecting to learn something new every day. Most of all I enjoy working with software and have never lost the joy that I had as a child writing my first 'hello world' application on the TI99 that my father brought home.
